As we celebrate the season of giving, it is appropriate to acknowledge how S.B.R.L.’s Miss Tracey and Miss Amber of the Youth Services Department are always ready to give their best for area families! What do these talented ladies give? Naturally, they give the gift of creativity. It requires a lot of imagination to come up with program ideas that will captivate and educate young readers of all ages. They provide knowledge in selecting just the right story, song, or film to use for each program It takes a great deal of in depth knowledge to know which books will work best for a specific program! They also give their skills in creating the crafts for the programs. They often provide their audiences with novelty items ranging from paper turkeys to cardboard crowns and it takes skill to make such artful items. Obviously, they give their time since putting the programs together and gathering the supplies needed to bring their ideas to vibrant life, takes many hours that are only found in between the periods that they assist library patrons or help out in other departments. They also give their care and attention to area kids and this type of personalized interaction leads to the development of a loyalty to their department and to our library in the families they serve. They could be called gardeners since they “grow” library users with the services they routinely offer! Their small patrons mature into teens who flock to Miss Tracey’s popular teen programs and often return to help out after they graduate from high school! It is the season of giving and your library’s Youth Services Department programs and staff are true gift to all area families and needless to say like all library services they come wrapped in a welcoming smile!
