Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He began his music career as a small child as a member of the Jackson 5 with his four older brothers. After being signed to Motown Record, he achieved remarkable success as the lead singer of the group and as a solo artist. The group’s first four singles all reached number 1 on various music charts. As an adult singer/song writer/performer/ and producer Michael Jackson shattered records for sales figures, charitable giving, and cultural impact. He was honored by world leaders and through his USA for Africa project he raised around $60 million dollars for famine relief in Africa. He was listed in the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records under the category “Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star.” His albums “Off the Wall”, “Thriller” “Bad”, “Dangerous” and “Invincible” became staples of airplay and downloading. His innovation in the field of music videos remains legendary. He sold around 750 million records, won 13 Grammy Awards, and 26 American Music Awards. He died on June 25, 2009.
