Kellye Garrett Author Photo

Talented author Kellye Garrett, author of the Detective By Day Mysteries, has an impressive array of honors to her credit:  Hollywood HomicideLibrary Journal August 2017 Debut of the Month, Agatha Award Nominee for Best First Novel, Barry Award Nominee for Best Paperback Original and 2018 Lefty Award Nominee for Best Debut Mystery Novel—available now from Midnight Ink.   Hollywood Ending out August 8, 2018.

She was also kind enough to share some of her own favorite titles with Shelf Discovery and we appreciate her help! Kellye wrote:

“As a mystery reader, I live for mystery series. Similar to a good TV show, I love coming back again and again to the characters I love. So instead of favorite books, I’d like to do some of my favorite older series, especially since libraries are so great for finding older books in their original hardcover format or that may not even readily available in bookstores any longer.”

Her favorites include:

  • The Kinsey Millhone Alphabet series by Sue Grafton
  • The Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich
  • The Claire Malloy series by Joan Hess
  • The Tamara Hayle books by Valerie Wilson Wesley
  • Robert B. Parker’s Spenser books (now written by Ace Atkins)

Actress Emma Roberts is well-known for her work in “Nancy Drew”, Scream Queens”, and “American Horror Story”; however, she also loves a good book.  “Reading is my form of self-care and meditation. I set aside at least twenty minutes a day for it. Sometimes that turns into thirty minutes, an hour, two hours.  One of my favorite books is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It has a gothic romance vibe, yet it could be a story today.” Emma has her own online book club called Belletrist. (www.belletrist.com).
